Okay, I'm planning out the fic I might write for next year's original big bang, and I'm going to write the story involving a couple of people getting superpowers through a set of inheritible nanomachines that's only compatible with people who have certain genetic backgrounds.

People in this world come in three subspecies - gladiators, Families and baseline humans. I want all gladiators to be compatible with the nanomachines, and I know that one of the things that makes them gladiators is a bunch of neanderthal gene fragments.

So, is it too faily to explicitly state that the compatibility factor is certain neanderthal gene fragments, given that this means only people with European ancestry qualify?
