Speculative apology

I asked someone to provide a translation for a non-intuitive Japanese phrase used in a fic. When I said thank you I might have insulted her somehow. If I did I apologise. I don't use 'fangirl Japanese' in my fics, just honorifics and the occasional term with no direct translations, and I don't mind looking something up if it isn't intuitive for me, but I prefer it if the author's preferred translation is available in non-intuitive cases as the phrase may have multiple meanings.
