I recently realised a few things about Yuffie under the Cetra, and since I don't think I'll be writing about her any time soon I thought I'd share with you all.

First, her mother is an uncaste Cetra, she would have been warrior caste if she'd been born later, whih was a big part of the reason Godo was allowed to continue ruling Wutai. But Yuffie and all her siblings so far are human.

There are two main factions who aren't entirely happy with Yuffie as the next ruler of Wutai; the traditionalist noble clans, and the Cetra supremacists.

The traditional noble clans wanted Yuffie married off to one of them (preferably one of the widowed clan heads or the heir) and carrying children, sons more than daughters, by the time she was fifteen. Notably not one of the husbands proposed for her was under thirty at the time, and the widowed clan heads were usually fifty or older. Now that she has a brother they're trying to pressure Godo to disinherit Yuffie and her three younger sisters in favour of the boy - ignoring the fact that legally he cannot do so. So far none of them have realised that they need to either convince Yuffie to abdicate her claim of her own accord - and convince her sisters to do the same - or get Cloud to declare that Yuffie's newborn brother is Godo's heir.

The more extreme of the Cetra supremacists have been trying to frame Godo and his family for crimes severe enough to remove the whole family from power, unsuccessfully so far. However if Yuffie's mother ever did give birth to a warrior caste Cetra they'd join the more moderate of the supremacists in trying to persuade Cloud to declare that the Cetra child would be Godo's heir, with Yuffie inheriting only after any Cetra siblings.

The more moderate Cetra supremacists have a different plan, and actually got Godo's partial cooperation with it. Currently they're trawling every unattached commoner or low noble healer caste Cetra male with any fighting ability that they can in Yuffie's vicinity, on the basis that if she marries a healer caste Cetra her children are more likely to be Cetra. Godo has told Yuffie that she must choose a husband by the time she's twenty-five, or he'll choose one for her, and he agrees with the Cetra noble who suggested it might be a good move for Yuffie to have a Cetra husband. He however would prefer a warrior caste noble, rather than a healer caste, as a warrior caste would fit better with Wutai's culture.

If she wants to, and has the temperament for it, then she should be able to rule Wutai. But what if she doesn't want the job?

She has the training for it, and even if she wouldn't be the same sort of ruler Godo is she would be capable of doing the job. If she desperately wanted not to become ruler and was willing to avoid her duty or truly felt the next in line would do a better job she could always choose to tkae herself out of the succession, but that would be her choice.

I was mainly considering Wutai's options if Godo was to die unexpectedly now. The parliment, if there is one, might decide it would be safer to find a sensible, experienced man to marry Yuffie then risk a long regency for Yuffie's brother, or a fifteen year old running the place.

The Cetra would NOT allow Yuffie to be forced into a marriage, certainly not for the purpose of having her husband steal her rank and authority for her. If she was underage then they'd allow a regent, but it wouldn't be a long regency and there is no way they would permit having her discarded in favour of a newborn - unless he was Cetra and the supremacists might push for that.

I guess that there aren't any factions waiting for Cetra child, so that possibility isn't causing problems.

Not really I just thought it would be interesting to explain how the factions would shift if a Cetra child was born, just as they shifted a bit when Godo's wife had a son.

If Godo is in good health, a succession question wouldn't be an active problem.

No, it isn't an active problem at the moment.
