Why not?

Seen a few times on my f-list [edit] and figured it's a good way to work out extra background for my characters [end edit].

Name a character and I'll tell you three (or more) facts about them from my personal fanon.

But please name the fic you want that character from, and it might take a while for me to post my answers.

Note, I've altered the date because this is staying open for a while. If I just can't come up with three facts for a character I've been asked for then I'll tell you so.

They were unexpectedly co-operative, so I'll start with Tseng.

1)Tseng was part of a gang as a teen - the leader in fact, and he was enslaved after a warrior caste high noble spotted him and pressured the police to arrest the gang. They had committed crimes, but nothing serious enough for the police to make a special effort to find evidence against them, until the high noble intervened. As the leader, and one of the gang members over the age of sixteen Tseng received a 10 year sentence, the heaviest in the gang as extra charges were made against him, and him alone. (The gang members under sixteen were fined, and given a suspended sentence, which would kick in if they were ever arrested for anything after the age of sixteen)

2) Tseng didn't consent to train as a concubine; the high noble who had spotted him arranged for that information to be faked and made sure he was the first to buy him.

2a) Ironically Tseng's first owner (who incidentally was a bit abusive) sold him back after barely two months because he was too 'rebellious and disruptive'.

3)Tseng does love Sephiroth and Cloud, but not in the same way they love each other. He likes Elena, but that's closer to friendship than the love he feels for Sephiroth and Cloud - although it is a case of friends with benefits, which you'll see towards the end of Indenture.

Especially the gang part...

I actually had this in mind from when I started planning out Affection, possibly earlier - I mean, what are the Turks really but a corporate sponsored gang?

And Nr. 3 is an evil cliffhanger

Didn't think of it that way, but I've scheduled the final part of Indenture for December 22, and I think I'll be posting the part where Elena has sex with Tseng about two weeks before that.

Tseng in Cetra Restoration

I just read all your Cetra Restoration stories. They are fascinating in a squicky sort of way. All the humans met so far are slaves.
But if Tseng is condemned for 10 years, isn't he very close to the end of his term? While you mentioned in Indenture, that a First Concubine will normally stay while his/her master is alive, Tseng isn't that important to Sephiroth or Cloud, that they would want to force Tseng to stay.

Aeris' mother isn't, but she only appears for a few moments, and neither of Elena's sisters are slaves, but I see what you mean. Although if you read A Pregnant Lover (http://jessara40k.livejournal.com/72717.html#cutid1) there's a human who isn't a slave there. I've been focused on Cloud, Aeris and their households, since I haven't got many reviews for the stuff that doesn't focus on them. I do reference Reeve, who's free and works for Cloud (the sparring robots Sephiroth destroys), but I don't mention his name.

But if Tseng is condemned for 10 years, isn't he very close to the end of his term?

I'm not entirely sure how old he is in this AU to be honest.

They don't love him no, but he's happy with them, so he doesn't want to leave, even if it's legally possible. As soon as a concubine is accepted as a first concubine his/her legal status changes so (s)he cannot be freed while his/her master lives and is freed automatically on his/her master's death.

I went back and read "Concubine" and "Affection"; and you really don't give Tseng's age. He went through some 15 places, but nothing said how long he stayed in any household. Some positions were very short, the first sight of the scars, or arms practice. Some places could be longer. But assuming that it took a couple of months to find him a place in someone's harem and that he stayed for a month, Tseng has been a concubine for about 4 years. Now that I think about it, that still makes him fairly young with years before he can think about freedom.
I assumed he was close to Sephiroth's age because Tseng acted like an adult. No whining, no complaining that the staff didn't like him, no looking for someone to bully or trying syncophantic behaviour on someone in authority. Tseng didn't even ask for Aeris' sympathy and help, and he probably had a decent claim on that since Aeris dragged him into this mess.
I was thinking that Tseng would like to leave Sephiroth and Cloud, when his sentence expires and find a life of his own. He is content as their concubine but I don't think he is truly happy. He doesn't have a career, or a lover who puts him first. Of course if the economy is really bad, this might not be a feasible option.
On another subject, Cloud, Sephiroth, Aeris and Tseng, all seem a little lost in high Cetra culture. Aeris knew that Cloud should have a concubine, but didn't know that the consort needed to be consulted. Neither Cloud, nor Sephiroth nor Aeris realized that most households tried for matching clothes at formal parties.

In a lot of ways his situation with Cloud is better than it was in most of the harems he was in, and it wouldn't occur to him that Aeris could do anything to affect how he was treated.

No, he doesn't want to leave. It hasn't even occured to him that leaving would be desirable. And he does have responsibilities and the respect of Cloud's people now, while if he was freed the scandal would follow him everywhere. He doesn't really want a lover who'd put him first, if he hadn't been enslaved he'd probably have stayed single for most of his life, with nothing closer than fuck-buddy relationships and a few close friendships.

As for the economy...I'm not sure. Elena's indenture was because the family had taken on a lot of debt due to their mother's illness, and financially it made more sense to accept an indenture where she'd get some qualifications than to get an entry level, almost dead end job, which is all she'd be able to find. Tseng does have a decent level of savings, since he's had so many owners and sold all the collars and cuffs they gave him, so he'd probably not really need a job, the way Scarlet wouldn't have needed a job if Rowan hadn't bought her as her first concubine.

On another subject, Cloud, Sephiroth, Aeris and Tseng, all seem a little lost in high Cetra culture. Aeris knew that Cloud should have a concubine, but didn't know that the consort needed to be consulted. Yes, they are a bit. Cloud wasn't entirely that interested in the more obscure bits of tradition, the only ones he really cared about were the ones that would affect Sephiroth so he researched a consort's rights (and incidentally responsibilities) pretty thoroughly, and Sephiroth researched most of the stuff that was written down because he believed that he should know about Cloud's culture and supporting Cloud is one of his responsibilities. Isis was supposed to teach them the unwritten stuff, but she didn't bother with anything that would help Sephiroth because she was jealous of him, like the matching clothes, and so she sabotaged their learning to some extent.
